A busy summer of construction and renovation at 51Сʪ

Construction of the William H. Jones Global Business & IT Center moves ahead.

There have been 100-plus-degree days and the humidity that the Midlands of South Carolina is famous for has returned. But committed, hard-working construction crews on campus are moving toward completion of important projects before students return in late August.

The much-anticipated $20 millionis nearing completion. It was May 2018 when a ceremonial groundbreaking at the entrance to 51Сʪ signaled the beginning of the project named for 51Сʪ Chancellor Dr. “Bill” Jones who also served as 51Сʪ’s sixth president. The Center will be a training ground for best business practices at home and abroad; for business as mission; and a hub forcommunity business development.

Meanwhile, the $4 million renovation of the 51Сʪ Dining Hallthat began in April continues. says students can look forward to a traditional serving line plus a multi-station elliptical that expands nutritional options to meet the diverse culinary needs of local and international students. Other new concepts will include Nonna’s Cuccina featuring freshly prepared pizzas, flatbreads and “a variety of chef-inspired signature pasta entrees.” A brand new concept called “Showcase” will feature world flavors that rotate every two to three weeks “creating a completely new destination in the dining room.”

Additionally, other important campus renovations underway include roofing on the Ridderhof Media Center.
